Academically, middle school teachers help students delve more deeply into subjects introduced in elementary school, and they generally specialize in a specific area of study such as English, Spanish, mathematics, history, biology, or a career-oriented subject.

Educational Requirements
Public school teachers are required to be licensed through the state board of education. Each state board has its own specific requirements, but many require a bachelor’s degree in education. If you already have a bachelor’s degree in another field, don’t worry – all states now offer alternative licensure programs so you can earn your teaching credential or license without starting from ground zero. Licensing is not required for private school teachers in most states.

Employment of middle school teachers is projected to grow 15% through 2018, with particularly good prospects for teachers in high-demand fields like math, science, and bilingual education, or in less desirable urban or rural school districts.
